Backup a local folder to a network drive with user interaction (BAT)

Purpose: Create a small backup program that a user can launch as he likes

In a corporate environment, different methods of backups are used. However, there might be a need for a small group of people to create something special. The need might raise for those who use an application that requires the USERS to be able to backup the application themselves. This of course puts the backup process into different set of hands (the user) but if that is the wish – it can be done and most importantly – easily. This example assumes that the network drive is backuped with other methods.

Copy a predefined file to all local user profiles (VBS)

Purpose: You want to copy a predefined file to all local workstation user profiles with SCCM

You might find yourself in a situation where some of the applications have been installed in one way and the others in another way. Depending on the problem, you might just want to clean the table and reinstall the the applications with your definitions. If this is not possible or would not be cost efficient, you could use SCCM to check if “something” exists and alter the workstations where this something is missing. In this example this “something” is a missing configuration file needed in EVERY USER PROFILE of the workstation.

Usage: cscript.exe IT_APP_VBS_CopyFileToEveryUserProfile.vbs
Configuration: You need to insert your own PREDEFINED FILE and LOCATION.

Copy a predefined file to a current user networked personal folder (VBS)

Purpose: You want to copy a predefined file to the currently logged on user personal network folder with SCCM

In this example this “something” is a missing configuration file located in the personal network folder of an user.

Usage: cscript.exe IT_APP_VBS_CopyFileToNetworkedPersonalFolder.vbs
Configuration: You need to insert your own PREDEFINED FILE and LOCATION.

Create a Folder from an Environmental Variable (VBS)

Purpose: Create a folder, which name is received from an environmental variable.

You might need to create a folder (deliver a file, get the string, etc.) based on a custom environmental variable.  In my scenario, I had an installation done differently across the domain. The only way to deliver a file to the installation directory was to either check which folder exists in the workstation (and hope you found all the permutations) or use the environmental variable (that was same in each workstation). I chose the environmental variable. In this example, a usually existing environmental variable %WINDIR% (the location of the windows installation) is used.

Usage: cscript.exe IT_APP_VBS_CreateFolderFromEnvironmentalVariable (no parameters exist)

Configuration: You need to change the folder location and environmental variable to match.
