Purpose: Requirements to correctly use SQL Server Report Builder on an external workstation
Should you need to use the SQL Server Report Builder from an external workstation (not directly from the SQL Server where the Report Service Point is installed), you will need to add the SQL server certificate to the external workstation. This will allow the external workstation to function properly with all of the Report Builder actions.
First connect to your System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Primary Site server (in stand-alone site server hierarchy). Then launch the MMC-console (mmc.exe) and add the Computer certificate snap-in. Navigate and export the SCCM computer certificate as the following pictures guide you.
Export the certificate so that you can import it in your selected external workstation. Connect now to the external workstation, launch the MMC-console and add the Computer certificate snap-in. Continue to import the SCCM 2012 server certificate like shown below. Import the certificate under the Trusted Root Certification Authorities / Certificates container.
After you have successfully imported the certificate, the SQL Server Report Builder will no longer taunt you about a certificate problem.
